How to Remove a Reddit Post or Comment
Removing Reddit content depends on who published it. You can delete posts and comments from your own account, while content published by someone else normally needs to be reported when it may violate Reddit’s rules or another applicable right.
If you want your own Reddit posts or comments removed, delete them before deleting the account itself.

How to delete your own Reddit post
Reddit allows you to delete posts you created while logged into the account that published them.
Open your Reddit profile
Sign in and go to your Profile.
Open your Posts
View the list of posts you have published.
Find the post
Locate the Reddit post you want to remove.
Select Delete
Open the overflow menu and choose Reddit’s Delete option.
How to delete your own Reddit comment
Reddit comments can also be removed directly from the account that originally published them.
Open your Profile and go to your Comments. Find the comment, open the overflow menu and choose the delete option.
On mobile, Reddit may first open the original post containing your comment before showing the deletion option.
Deleting your Reddit account does not delete your posts
Reddit works differently from what some users expect when deleting an account.
Delete posts and comments first
When a Reddit account is deleted, existing posts and comments can remain on Reddit but become disconnected from the deleted username.
If you want those posts and comments removed as well, Reddit recommends deleting them before deleting the account.
How to report a Reddit post or comment
Reddit recommends reporting the specific post or comment when you believe it violates Reddit’s site-wide rules or a community’s rules.
Find the content
Open the exact post or comment you want reviewed.
Open the menu
Tap or click the overflow menu next to the content.
Select Report
Use Reddit’s reporting option for that specific content.
Select the reason
Choose the Reddit or community rule that best matches the actual problem.
Report the actual post or comment.
Reddit says reporting the specific content gives the review additional context, including the user who submitted it and the community where it appeared.
Why might a Reddit post or comment be reported?
Focus on the specific behaviour rather than simply saying that you want the content removed.
Harassment
Content may target or repeatedly harass another Reddit user.
Private Information
Reddit prohibits certain sharing of personal or confidential information.
Threats
Content containing credible threats or encouraging violence may violate site-wide rules.
Impersonation
Posts may form part of an account deceptively impersonating another person or entity.
Spam or Manipulation
Spam and disruptive manipulation can violate Reddit’s platform rules.
Copyright
Original copyrighted material may use a separate intellectual-property reporting process.
Subreddit moderators vs Reddit administrators
Reddit has community-level moderation and platform-level enforcement.
Manage a specific subreddit
Volunteer moderators enforce the individual rules of their community and can remove posts and comments from that subreddit.
Think: community rulesEnforce site-wide rules
Reddit administrators handle platform-wide Reddit Rules and can take broader enforcement action.
Think: Reddit-wide violationsCopyright is a separate rights process.
Use copyright procedures only when you own the relevant copyright or are authorised to represent the rights holder.
Someone copied your content onto Reddit
Reddit provides a dedicated copyright reporting process for copyright owners and authorised representatives.
Copyright can potentially protect original creative works such as photographs, videos, written works and other qualifying material.
Not every use of copyrighted material is automatically infringement. Legal exceptions may apply depending on the circumstances.
Save evidence before Reddit content changes
Posts and comments can be edited or deleted. Preserve useful information before submitting an important report.
Save the direct Reddit post or comment link.
Record the account that submitted the content.
Capture the relevant content and surrounding context.
Record which community contains the content.
Note approximately when you found the content.
Keep originals when copyright may be involved.
Not every negative Reddit post can be removed
Reddit contains criticism, opinions, discussions and anonymous commentary.
Content being negative, embarrassing or critical does not automatically mean that it violates Reddit’s rules.
Focus on an actual Reddit Rule, community rule or applicable legal right.
- Reporting content only because it is negative
- Choosing an unrelated reporting reason
- Deleting your account before deleting your posts
- Submitting copyright claims you do not own
- Assuming multiple reports guarantee removal
