How to Remove a TikTok Post
Removing a TikTok post depends on who published it. You can delete content from your own account, while content posted by someone else normally needs to be reported when a relevant TikTok rule or legal right applies.
You control posts published from your own TikTok account. If another user published the content, TikTok decides whether the reported post violates its rules. Reporting does not guarantee removal.
Who published the TikTok post?
This determines whether you can delete the content yourself or need to use one of TikTok’s reporting procedures.
I posted it
If the post is on an account you control, you can normally delete it directly from TikTok.
Delete your own post →Someone else posted it
You cannot directly delete another user’s TikTok post. You first need to identify whether a valid reporting reason applies.
Explore reporting options →TikTok post removal options
| Situation | Possible action | Who decides? |
|---|---|---|
| Your own TikTok post | Delete the post | You |
| Recently deleted own post | Restore within the available recovery period | You |
| Someone else’s violating post | Report the post | TikTok |
| Your original video was copied | Copyright report may apply | TikTok reviews the claim |
| Duet or Stitch using your content | Content reuse tools or reporting may apply | Depends on the situation |
How to delete your own TikTok post
If you still control the account that published the post, TikTok provides a direct delete option.
Open the TikTok post
Go to your profile and open the post you want to remove.
Open More options
Tap the three-dot or More options control shown alongside the post.
Select Delete
Choose TikTok’s delete option and confirm that you want to remove the post.
Can you recover a deleted TikTok post?
TikTok currently provides a Recently deleted folder for posts that have been deleted within the previous 30 days.
You can find it through your profile settings under Activity center → Recently deleted.
Restoring a recently deleted post also restores its associated likes and comments.
Don’t wait too long.
Once the recovery period has passed, TikTok states that the deleted post is permanently deleted from the account.
Can you remove a TikTok post published by someone else?
You cannot directly delete a post from another person’s TikTok account. Instead, look at why you believe the content should be removed.
Harassment or Bullying
The post targets someone in a way that may violate TikTok’s safety rules.
Privacy Issue
The post exposes private information or creates another potential privacy concern.
Copyright
Someone has uploaded original material you own without the necessary permission.
Impersonation
The video uses your identity or likeness as part of deceptive impersonation.
Scam or Fraud
The post forms part of fraudulent or intentionally deceptive activity.
No Clear Violation
Disliking a TikTok post does not by itself mean that TikTok is required to remove it.
How to report a TikTok post
TikTok allows users to report individual posts that they believe violate its Community Guidelines.
The reporting process is available in the TikTok app and through a web browser.
Choose the reason that most accurately matches the problem. An unrelated report category does not make a case stronger.
- Open the TikTok post
- Tap Share or press and hold the post
- Select Report
- Choose the relevant reason
- Select a subtopic if TikTok asks
- Submit the report
What about Duets and Stitches using your TikTok?
TikTok gives creators additional controls over content that has been reused through Duet and Stitch.
Your video appears beside another creator
A Duet uses your original TikTok alongside another user’s new video.
Part of your video is reused
A Stitch lets another creator include part of your original video in their own TikTok.
TikTok currently allows creators to review reused content and provides a Remove all posts option for an original post and associated Duet and Stitch videos.
Because this can permanently remove the original post and associated reused content, review the option carefully before confirming it.
Copyright is different from simply appearing in a video.
Only use copyright procedures when you genuinely own the relevant rights or are authorised to represent the rights holder.
Someone copied your TikTok video
TikTok does not allow content that infringes another person’s copyright or trademark rights.
If your original copyrighted work is being used without permission, TikTok provides copyright reporting procedures both online and within its services.
Not every unauthorised use is automatically copyright infringement, because legal exceptions can apply depending on the country and circumstances.
Save evidence before the TikTok changes
Important posts can be edited, deleted or moved. Save the relevant information before submitting a report.
Save the direct TikTok link.
Record which account published it.
Capture useful context around the post.
Keep relevant text and hashtags.
Record when you discovered the post.
Keep originals when copyright is involved.
Not every unwanted TikTok post can be removed
TikTok reviews reports according to its Community Guidelines and other applicable policies.
Content may be critical, embarrassing or unpleasant without necessarily violating TikTok’s rules.
A stronger report identifies a specific problem rather than simply stating that you want the video taken down.
- Choosing a false reporting reason
- Submitting copyright claims you do not own
- Deleting useful evidence too early
- Assuming multiple reports guarantee removal
- Confusing an account issue with one individual post
